Cliff Murphy
Born in Oldham, Lancashire, in 1944, amidst a backdrop of thriving cotton mills and working class housing, Cliff Murphy seeks to capture the charisma and spirit of a bygone era in his paintings. For Cliff, strong memories remain of the community in which he grew up and he finds himself drawing upon these memories in his work. As Cliff says "life was hard in 40s & 50s, but it had a simplicity about it that I miss in today’s society." Cliff's originals are highly sought after and notably, his collectors include Eric Sykes CBE. He had a recent piece ‘Daisy Nook Fair’ accepted by the Royal Academy for their 2013 exhibition. The original sold to an American collector on its first day on view.
